Hello,
I'm currently in the process of evaluating several DAM options given my requirements, and XnView MP has positively surprised me. However, I've encountered some niggles concerning the use of hierarchical keywords. This is with XnView MP v0.79 x64 on Linux.
Firstly, when the option to automatically assign higher-level keywords is not ticked, selecting higher-level keywords in the display filter tab doesn't yield images with subordinate keywords, and there's no number of images (including those with subordinate keywords) given with the higher-level keyword. I'd very much appreciate an option for that (implicitly count subordinate keywords into higher-level keywords in the display filter's categories section). If there already is such an option, I couldn't find it.
Secondly, to work around this, I've enabled the option to automatically assign higher-level keywords. This has the desired effect of subordinate keywords being included with higher-level keywords in the display filter. However, keyword assignment is inconsistent with this option set. If I enter a lower-level keyword into the input box and accept the completion, only the lower-level keyword is added to the image's list of keywords, but not the higher-level keywords. If I, however, click on the now-added lower-level keyword in the “assigned” list, the higher levels get added. If in contrast, instead of by typing, I add a lower-level keyword by locating and clicking on it in the hierarchical tree, the higher-level keywords get added right away. This is, however, very cumbersome compared to the keyboard method. Therefore, I'd appreciate an additional “action” option for the keyword input field which adds not only the actual keyword upon pressing Enter, but also the higher-level keywords.
And thirdly, with said hierarchical inclusion option enabled, I can no longer remove the assignment of any keywords by clicking them in the “assigned” list. Without the option, clicking an assigned keyword has it turn from bold to non-bold and results in it being unassigned when deselecting the image (probably intended; in any case, a sufficiently efficient way to remove tags). With the option enabled, I can only remove tags via the hierarchical tree, which, again, is cumbersome.
Thanks!
