I've just tried to reproduce the problem in XnView MP 0.84 on Windows 10 64bit.
That's the steps I performed:
1. Assign four-star rating to JPG file using Windows Explorer
2. Start XnView and browsed the folder containing the JPG file.
-> XnView displays four-star rating for thumbnail and in preview (correct)
3. Assign two-star rating to JPG file using Windows Explorer
XnView still displays the four star rating (o.k.)
4. Press F5 to update XnView.
-> XnView displays two-star rating for thumbnail and in preview (correct)
Could you please check using v0.84? Is there still a problem (that I don't see)?
