When you say files will be added too, do you mean cached thumbnails? Or are you saying that these files will instantly add new categories to the tree and be available there?
It's not a big deal either way. I can manually exclude the other directories in my home folder that have images, without excluding the whole parent folder.

if you browse a directory outside your base path, files will be added too. The use of base path is to not store the full path of images but only a path relative to the base path.
