Canvas Size: Keep Ratio Sticks?

Hi there. I'm new to the forum. First let me state how cool I think XnView is. It really is a solid piece of software that I love to use.

I recently had several scans of images which, at 300 dpi, were a little bit smaller than 8.5"x11" in both dimensions. The target was an image 8.5"x11". Of course, to fit these scans into this size without scaling them, I used the Canvas Size menu option set to source image centering, and a white border specified to be the blank fill. What I found next was a little bit frustrating. I went down to print size and typed in 8.5" into the "width" entry, and immediately, the "height" entry changed to something else. Curious, I thought, but I figured I could change that. I thus went to the "height" entry and typed in 11" and bang, the "width" entry changed to something different from the 8.5 I had just entered. Weird. I verified that the "Keep Ratio" box was *NOT* set, but couldn't get this behavior to go away. As I work-around, in the Screen Size specifications above, I entered 2550 and 3300 pixels. That worked. I thus adjusted my images using this, instead. This behavior was reproducible by me both today and when this behavior appeared --- to my recollection --- the last time I used Canvas Size several months ago. I forget to mention the behavior here at that point, however.

Now it gets better. I played with the Fixed Ratio button --- I toggled it one way and then the other --- and guess what? Now, with Keep Ratio *NOT* affirmatively selected, I can enter 8.5 and 11 and not have these change each time I enter a value in the other.

Thoughts? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
