Hello:
Sorry, I missed the part where you said these were video files.![Shocked ]()
For video files there is a few known issues with XnviewMp and video files.
1.) Mp is not able to create xmp for mp4 videos as of yet. http://www.xnview.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=959
I think you should still be able to rate and move videos using MP and its database. I'll have to test this, I haven't done videos for a while.
2.) Mp is known to hang or lock video files so that Renaming and Moving may be tricky sometimes. http://www.xnview.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=1020
I think this has to do with Mp's preview pane and or Thumbnail creator. It likes to lock the files it's using.
Maybe you could try Xnview Classic version for this reason.
Myself, I use Win Explorer + QtTabBar to rate videos. Just pull up the bottom info panel enough to see the rating stars.
But here again, i'm not sure if Mp auto reads ratings set by Win Explorer. I'll have to look into this.
Also note: some video formats cannot take on embedded metadata, ex: .flv's. Some programs use a database, and Some use a sidecar file to get around this, though.
Maybe @JadO can answer this better, he seems to use Mp alot for videos.
