View Switching and Tabs

I missed that, too.
So cmd_tabsShow = View» Tab» Show.

You're right: Even if Maximum of view tabs is set to 1, you'll end up with a total of 4 (1 × browser + 3 × viewer) tabs, when you select 3 thumbnails in the browser and Open all selected from the context menu.
