Two further thoughts to follow XnTriq's post above:
Presumably you made a selection and then pressed the delete key: if you the change the background colour set in Edit > Background colour... you can make the deleted area any uniform colour you wish, if that could be helpful...
Second, the small pixel dimensions of the image you posted may mean that the text you add may not print very clearly due to a lack of pixels. Depending on how you are working, you might need to scan the card again at a significantly higher DPI, or otherwise create a larger image to add your text to, and then possibly adjust the print size if necessary.
